The convoy of armored vehicles from entering Libya Algeria
Cairo (ANTARA News / AFP) - A convoy of six armored vehicles that may carry Libyan officials, and even a strong man Muamar Gaddafi of Libya to enter Algeria on Friday, Egypt's official news agency said, quoting a source Libyan rebels.
The news could not be immediately confirmed from sources Algeria or Libya.
MENA news agency reported six Mercedes armored vehicles entered the Ghadames Friday morning. MENA quoted a source of Libya's military council in the city's border with Algeria.
The source was quoted by MENA said the convoy was escorted by pro-government forces to enter Algeria. The rebels could not pursue the vehicles because they lacked the ammunition and equipment.
"We think they (the cars) carry a high Libyan officials, may Gaddafi and his sons," the source said.
Gaddafi has been pursued since rebels seized the capital of Libya Tripoli this weekend.
Algeria who refused to acknowledge the National Transition Council (NTC) rebels Libya on Friday confirmed that it will implement a policy of "strict neutrality" in place since the beginning of the conflict.
A foreign ministry statement sent to AFP is the first comment from Algeria since the NTC held the capital of Libya, although other countries in the region immediately recognize the rebel victory.
